September Bows by Little Poppy, Dress by Old Navy
I’ve been working on updating my toddler’s wardrobe for Fall, and of course, that includes the Little Poppy September bows! This month subscribers received two leather bows in colors that are perfect for autumn, and one large fabric specialty bow. As always, these are bows that are meant to add variety to subscribers’ ever-growing bow collections. Before I tell you more about Little Poppy Co. September bows, let’s review how this bow subscription works. If you’re already familiar with how it works, you can skip down to my review of this month’s new bows.
An Introduction to Little Poppy Co.
When I found out about Little Poppy Co., I loved the subscription-based premise. Sign up and for $11/month ($15 with shipping) you receive three seasonal bows in the mail. The Little Poppy Co. September bows include one hand-sewn fabric bow and two leather bows.
I think a Little Poppy Co. subscription is perfect for anyone that’s a little bit obsessed with bows (like me). But I also think it’s an absolutely darling gift. I’d love to give a Little Poppy subscription at a baby shower or as a first birthday gift. And bows are a darling stocking stuffer at Christmas. They have several gift options in the shop. Can you tell it’s really not hard for me to justify buying bows?
Speaking of the shop, Little Poppy runs an exclusive shop for add-ons you can order on top of the regular subscription bows. Little Poppy announces their exclusive bows on Instagram, and they often sell out very quickly. This month they offered floral corduroy bows in fun fall colors. They also revived their popular gray swiss dot poppy. They also sell pigtail sets in the shop case you want two of each bow for an additional fee. UPDATE ON PIGTAIL SETS: Now you can change your subscription so you get pigtail sets every month for an additional $6. This option sold out almost immediately last month, but there were many more spots available for October bows.
Like most subscription boxes, the biggest disadvantage is that you’re not picking out what you’re paying for. Sometimes you get three bows you’ll use and love, sometimes you might only like one. The nice thing is that unlike many subscription services, you’ll get to see what the bows look like before they arrive through the monthly reveals on Instagram. After seeing those images, I love checking my mail for the new bows!
Little Poppy strives to please everyone by increasing the quality of their bows, offering a wide range of colors, and a mix of different bow styles. I’ve loved introducing new styles into my bow collection.
So let’s talk about my Little Poppy September bows!
Rose Gold Leather Bow
This is a gorgeous rose gold bow with lots of shimmer. It has just enough orange to make it a perfect fall accent color, but it’s not too orange. The shape of this bow and the plum leather bow caused a bit of controversy on Instagram when they released the September sneak peek. It’s an asymmetrical style, with one tail pointing downward and one tail pointing upward. It can look almost as if the bow has been pulled off center. Some subscribers complained that they did not like this style. When the bows are shown on models, the asymmetrical effect is not as dramatic. I generally prefer classic bow shapes, but I’ll willing to give this different shape a try. I don’t think I’d like to have this unusual shape as a pigtail set.
Cornstalk Stripe Linen Bow
This is a classic go-with-everything bow, and it’s unlike anything I have in my current bow collection. The cornstalk stripe is a medium brown color that will pair beautifully with fall shades of pumpkin spice, mustard yellow, and deep plum. I think this bow will also work well for Spring and Summer, though I don’t see it working as well for Winter. I love this oversized shape. I always seem to think Little Poppy hand-sewn bows are a steal.
Plum Leather Bow
The color of the second leather bow is a rich plum that could. This color pairs beautifully with the shimmery rose gold because they both have warm undertones. Really this set takes a classic pink and purple bow pairing and adds some sophistication. I dress my daughter in a lot of navy blue, and I think this color will make a nice accent. She’s really into purple right now, so this might end up being her favorite bow!
My Thoughts on September Bows Overall
Little Poppy September bows are all about welcoming fall with warm, rich colors, classic materials, and the introduction of an unusual shape. These are bows I might not have chosen for myself, but I’m glad to be pushed out of my comfort zone with new colors and styles. Maybe in October I will (finally!) pick up something from the exclusive bow shop to show you!
