You don’t need a changing table if you have a chic, portable changing mat. If you have the space for a changing table or just really want one, that’s great. But if you’re short on space or money, a simple changing mat will do the job! I highly recommend the Gathre changing mat. I started using it for diaper changes on-the-go, but now I use mine for every single diaper change. Obviously you could use a towel or a swaddling blanket for the same purpose. So why am I so into it?
Premium Materials
Gathre changing mats are made of premium bonded leather with a suede backside. They are sold in an array of stylish colors and prints that are usually more sophisticated than playful. The mat shown in the picture above is from a discontinued collection, but there are many options. I am in love with the dreamy collaboration with Rylee & Cru.
Wipes Clean
All Gathre mats are wipeable and waterproof, making them incredibly easy to clean. I use a wet rag and mild cleaning solution. I love having a changing mat that doesn’t add to my laundry pile. I use the mat many times each day and it still looks brand new, with no signs of wear and tear. I’m always really happy when the things I’m using on a regular basis hold up to heavy use!
Space Saving
The Gathre changing mat is small (14 x 22) and quite thin. It folds up into a compact square. I fold mine up after every change and store it in a small container with wipes, hand sanitizer, and my other favorite baby toiletries. If your diaper bag doesn’t come with a standard coordinating changing mat, this size is perfect for diaper changes on-the-go. I’ve considered buying another one to keep in my car, and they’re a great option for changes at Grandma’s house too!
Cost
At $20, buying one Gathre changing mat instead of a changing table and changing pad leaves a lot more room in your nursery budget.
Safety & Simplicity
Buying a stylish, compact changing mat simplified my diapering routine. I also love no longer worrying about the potential peril of my baby falling off the changing table.
